Appearance: These "chips" are typically 3–5 centimeters in diameter, round, and golden-brown to dark brown in color. Bangladeshi versions are often slightly larger and darker than Indian varieties.
- Texture: They are famously brittle and "puffy". Because they are hollow inside, they offer a sharp, airy crunch when bitten into.
- Ingredients: The dough is primarily made from semolina (shuji or suji) and flour (maida), sometimes with a small amount of oil or ghee. Semolina is used in high proportions to ensure the shell stays crispy and does not become soggy quickly.
Culinary Role:
The shell is not typically eaten plain like a standard potato chip. Instead, a small hole is poked into the top of the crisp ball.
